Sony Ericsson has reported its second quarter results, which doubled as it sold more expensive handsets with cameras and music players. For the quarter the company reported income before taxes of Euro 211 million representing a year-on-year increase of 143%. Net income was Euro 143 million.
Sales for the quarter were Euro 2,272 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 41% versus a forecast of 2.09 billion. Its handset sales amounted to 15.7 million units, compared with an expected 14.3 million.
Growth in the global handset market continued to outpace expectations, and Sony Ericsson raised its outlook for 2006 to be above 950 million units, up its previous estimate of ‘above 900 million units’.
