ip.access ltd, a developer of in-building wireless picocell solutions, has signed a distribution agreement with Himachal Exicom Communications Ltd (HECL), a provider of telecom solutions throughout India, to further increase the worldwide footprint of ip.access' nanoGSM picocell solution. The new deal will enable HECL to provide nanoGSM to customers throughout India, allowing operators to extend network reach to remote parts of India and to improve GSM in-building coverage and extended capacity for corporate offices. The solution uses nanoBTS picocells and DSLs to backhaul the traffic over IP, providing a simple and cost-efficient service to small and medium-sized enterprises.
Mr. Y. S. Choudhary, Managing Director, HECL, commented, "India has large rural populations and a high density of people in cities, so the importance of improved cellular capacity -- as well as coverage -- is greater than elsewhere. The addition of nanoGSM to our product portfolio means that we can now help Indian operators to satisfy this growing requirement cost-effectively. Possible applications will include in-building coverage in heritage city areas without disturbing aesthetics of landscape and buildings, off-shore sites and rapid deployment sites for disaster management."
Sim Cher Fong, VP Sales Asia-Pacific, ip.access, stated, "nanoGSM is live in 16 countries around the world, and is already widely adopted throughout Asia. This partnership with HECL is an important step in accelerating its rollout in India to expand our presence further."
ip.access counts Scottish Equity Partners, Intel Capital, Rothschild Gestion, and TTP Communications (LSE: TTC) among its shareholders. HECL has installed first underground train and station coverage system in Delhi Metro for GSM & CDMA service providers.
