Japanese video game maker Nintendo Co. Ltd. has posted lower annual operating profit of 90.35 billion yen, a fall of 19 percent from 111.52 billion yen a year earlier. The annual profit was hurt by slowing demand for its GameCube game console and software.
However, the company posted net profit of 98.38 billion yen up 12.5 percent to, due to a large currency-related gain.
For the current business year to March 2007, Nintendo expects an operating profit of 110 billion yen, falling short of a market consensus of 113.74 billion yen calculated from 17 analysts by Reuters Estimates.
Nintendo is known for game characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong and Pokemon.
