Network Appliance Inc. has announced that it would add heterogeneous SAN management capabilities to its Manageability Software family by reselling a co-branded version of Symantec CommandCentral Storage software in Fall 2006. The announcement came after the company launched enterprise SAN systems designed to take Network Appliance deeper into more heterogeneous storage networks.
The company said the new addition would further strengthens the value and ‘completeness’ of NetApp offers for data center management. NetApp said it would help enterprise customers gain better visibility into their multi-vendor storage environment, and provide customers with the ability to maximize their investment in existing storage systems.
NetApp said it has worked closely with Symantec and other independent SRM (storage resource management) vendors to address the manageability challenges in mixed-vendor, enterprise SAN implementations.
Rob Soderbery, vice president product management and alliances at Symantec said, "CommandCentral Storage provides NetApp customers the ability to exploit NetApp’s architectural advantages while getting control over their entire multi-vendor storage environment."
