Tegic Introduces T9 Text Input Software in Punjabi
Tegic Communications, a unit of American Online India Pvt. Ltd., which develops embedded software for mobile devices, has launched an enhanced version of its T9 text input software in Punjabi in Chandigarh. This will enable enable users of cell phones and mobile devices to quickly write SMS text messages in Punjabi, a language spoken by more than 100 million people around the world.
Currenly, Tegic's T9 Text Input software helps users of cell phones and mobile devices to quickly write SMS text messages in 55 global languages, including multiple Indic languages, and enjoy popular mobile content and services.
In India T9 software is also available in five languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Urdu. Later this year, Tegic expects to introduce T9 for several more Indian languages, including Gujarati and Kannada.
According to a study by Portio research SMS (short message service) in India is expected to grow to 180 billion in 2010 from 12.3 billion messages in 2004.
Tegic Communications is currently in the process to give license to original equipment manufacturer in India.
