There are over 1.1 billion email users worldwide, with nearly 1.4 billion active email accounts, said Radicati Group Inc., a market research firm in the computer and telecommunications, in a study conducted on first quarter market numbers update. Worldwide email traffic per day totals about 171 billion messages, of which 71 percent are spam, the study revealed.
According to the study about 67 percent of worldwide email mailboxes are delivered through a webmail service provider or ISP. Insourced mailboxes account for 27 percent of total mailboxes worldwide.
The study forecasts strong growth in email archiving, wireless email and instant messaging markets. The email archiving market is expected to grow from million in 2006 to nearly USD 7.8 billion in 2010. The installed base of the wireless email market is forecasted to grow from 14 million in 2006 to 228 million in 2010. Revenue in the Enterprise Instant Messaging market will increase at an average annual rate of 23 percent over the next four years.
