Virtual infrastructure software provider VMware announced that Singapore-based travel facilitator Abacus International Pte Ltd (Abacus) has implemented VMware virtual infrastructure. Abacus expects to save 1 million Singapore dollars by using VMware virtual infrastructure to reduce total cost of ownership, increase room for expansion, and simplify management of the company’s computing infrastructure.
Abacus provides computer reservation systems for travel agency bookings and desktop solutions for managing mid- to back-office operations, from ticketing and billing to accounts reconciliation.
“Before implementing VMware virtual infrastructure our server resources were close to being maxed out, and our manual processes greatly inhibited our ability to scale and grow. So we looked for a server consolidation and management solution that would deliver a competitive edge by enabling rapid time-to-market, easy IT administration, and smooth migration of legacy applications,” said Abacus' Lim Lai Hock.
“VMware virtual infrastructure shortened our time to market with new applications and features. We saved 40 man hours by streamlining testing processes with automated tools, reduced server provisioning time from half a day to 30 minutes, improved server management, and cut administrative costs using VMware VirtualCenter,” added Hock.
“Managing a virtual infrastructure allows IT to quickly connect and manage resources to meet business needs. We believe that it is just a matter of time before virtualization infiltrates every part of the IT infrastructure,” said Koh Eng Kheng, Regional Director, VMware ASEAN & India.
Abacus consolidated 38 servers onto two physical hosts running ESX Server, accelerated legacy application migration, and automated testing and development processes. |
