Sun Announces Mobile Java Based Entertainment Web Site

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Sun), the creator of Java technology, announced the launch of mobile.java.com. The web site offers mobile Java technology-based applications for purchase and download. Wireless carrier subscribers can access the new site via a web browser on Java powered mobile devices such as cell phones and PDAs.

The site will contain a range of Java Powered mobile applications, including popular action games and puzzles. Sun says developers of Java Powered games and other consumer content can submit their requests online to promote and sell their applications.

"With the creation of mobile.java.com, Sun plans to provide a trusted site for consumers to discover, purchase and download mobile Java applications," said Mark Herring, senior director, Java Brand Programs at Sun.

Java developers can, through the web site, sell their games, ringtones, videos, and other applications directly to mobile phone users worldwide on any network and also bill consumers anywhere in the world for their content. According to Sun, developers will be able to retain total flexibility and control over product offerings and pricing. Consumers will have many payments options available, depending on the network they are on.
