IBM to Snap Up Multicultural Name Recognition Company
The big blue has signed an agreement to acquire Language Analysis Systems, Inc. (LAS), a privately-held company based in Herndon, Virginia, that develops multicultural name recognition technology. Financial terms were not disclosed. LAS technology allows organizations to increase business insight by enabling a precise, real-time view into the linguistic and cultural properties of names and facilitates a range of solution.
As with its recent acquisitions of iPhrase, DWL and SRD, IBM's strategy is to apply LAS software in new ways and for new industries, utilizing its in-depth knowledge of these key industries, potentially opening up new growth opportunities by helping clients rapidly address emerging business challenges.
LAS is the 17th IBM acquisition since 2001 under the company's initiative to help customers access, manage and deliver information more effectively.
