Research In Motion (RIM) Extends BlackBerry's Reach
BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) upgraded its server software this week in a bid to extend the enterprise functionality of the handhelds that have developed a strong corporate following over the past several years. In addition to upgrading its server software, RIM this week acquired Ascendent Systems, a company whose technology will help the BlackBerry connect more intelligently to PBX and IP-PBX communications systems.
The result, according to RIM, will be a more heterogeneous telephony environment that lets users "push" their voice calls to their BlackBerry devices, essentially extending corporate desk-phone functionality to the mobile devices. More Info.
