Electronic Data Systems (EDS) is scouting for a mid-sized overseas company to spur growth in the next few years, according to its co-chief operating officer Steve Schuckenbrock. EDS is looking at assets in China and Korea as well as in central Europe, but Mr Schuckenbrock particularly highlighted India as a fertile market. EDS isn’t looking at buying any of India’s top five or six players in the IT services market, he said, but it has eyed other privately-held and public assets that are not so highly priced.
“We believe EDS can bring scale to those medium-sized businesses in India,” he said. ET had reported on January 25, that EDS was carrying out a business due diligence to buy out Baring Private Equity Partners stake in software services company MphasiS.
“We see offshoring as a major offensive weapon,” Mr Schuckenbrock said at a conference in New York. “We have a great (human resources) offering but not enough in finance and administration, so we would expect to fill out some of that capability.”
