Microsoft is preparing a public beta test program for its new set of parental controls, called "Windows Live Family Safety Settings." Family Safety Settings is an easy-to-use parental control application that is designed to monitor, control and filter online activity. The technology behind this service is similar to the Windows Vista Family Safety feature. Beta-testing invitations for Windows Live Family Safety Settings have already gone out to existing Windows Live users, and a public beta is expected soon. A screenshot of the new service reveals that it contains settings to block not only pornographic images, but also sites related to alcohol, bomb-making, drugs, hate speech, sex education, tobacco, and even gambling.
Windows Live is a set of web-based services, such as a new version of Hotmail and an online anti-virus scanner. Windows Live is available for free, supported by in-line advertising. New features, including public beta testing, are available from their main site.
