Gates Elected to Berkshire Hathaway Board of Directors

In a statement on his election to the board of directors of Berkshire Hathaway, Bill Gates said he was "delighted and honoured to have been asked to serve on the board of this very successful company". In doing so, Gates will serve as an advisor to longtime friend and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. He hoped his experience in both Microsoft and ICOS would prove to be of value to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders. Bill Gates has long been a shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway.

He also sits on the board of ICOS, a company that specialises in protein-based and small-molecule therapeutics, and he is also an investor in a number of other biotechnology companies.

Gates also founded Corbis, which is developing one of the world's largest resources of visual information - a comprehensive digital archive of art and photography from public and private collections around the globe.
