Mozilla Downloaded 400 M Times

Mozilla Firefox, the second most popular internet browser has crossed 400 million downloads globally. This is big news for the browser that was launched just three years ago in 2004.

In 2004, when it was launched for the first time, it was downloaded 100 million times and doubled the rate in 2006.

In a message posted on its marketing website Spread Firefox, the Firefox team thanked the users. "With your amazing efforts, Firefox has reached 400 million downloads and demonstrated that not even the world's most powerful companies can keep people from a better, safer, and faster web experience."

Data from the US consultancy firm Janco and the IT Productivity Center say Firefox currently has a market share of 17.5 per cent, while W3Counter suggests Firefox has cornered 25 per cent of the web browser market.
