According to new tests, AMD, the world’s second largest chips maker, is better than its bigger rival Intel when it comes to power efficiency.
Neal Nelson and Associates (NNA) said that AMD’s chips were better than Intel in about 36 tests out of 57 done. The tests were done servers having 2GB, 4GB, 6GB and 8GB of memory using various transaction processing load levels.
According to NNA, Intel Xeon servers were about 2.4 to 11.7 per cent powerful than Intel and AMD Opteron chips were power efficient anywhere between 9.2 and 23.1 per cent.
These tests revealed that Opteron chips’ efficiency improved as workload increase while in the case of Xeon, the opposite happened. |
