Overview on PHP Job Prospects

Marc Gear debates the cause of PHP jobs prospects. He says, that PHP is still popular because it does some jobs really well. He comments on Terry Chay post about Ruby on Rails that “look at the top 100 web sites on the Internet: about 40% of them are written in PHP and 0% of them are written in Rails.”

He finds this statement interesting as he feels that PHP is a good scripting language. It’s something that should be used to develop web applications that are used by hundreds of thousands of users across the world.

He is concerned about the fact that some PHP developers think PHP to be second-rate and are ‘embarassed’ to add it on their resumes. He reasons out that developers do not want to work in PHP because it would ‘damage’ their career prospects to have used such a poor quality language for too long. He says this is unreasonable as PHP is used as a language in environments that other more traditional OO scripting languages proved to be too delicate.
