Gregory Szorc provides you with an overview of 'untapped features' that PHP possess but developers fail to utilize them in their developing applications.
He is concerned that the shift from PHP4 to PHP 5 is not getting the required response. In this context, he talks about PHP applications like Drupal and Gallery which still depends on and utilizes PHP4 features. He reasons that the poor adoption of PHP 5 turns away users. PHP 5’s release almost three years back, created problems while upgrading as many scripting errors followed. But, he points out that there are improvements of the PHP 5 engine, both from a performance and security standpoint so the adoption rate should rise.
Another reason, he points out is the ignorance level of the programmers.
The average PHP 'programmer' is ignorant of the features available in PHP.
