Quercas, Compiling PHP to Java Bytecode

 

 

Joshua Eichorn, in a new post over his blog talks about Quercas. For the unacquainted, Quercus is Caucho Technology's Java implementation of PHP 5 released under the Open Source GPL license. Quercus comes with PHP modules and extensions like PDF, PDO, MySQL, and JSON.

Joshua says, quercas compiles PHP to Java Bytecode allowing it to run on top of the Java Resin Application Server. It has a couple of features, one being PHP 6 compatible Unicode support, the other being integration between Java and PHP code, he explains. He says it also implements a large part of the PHP API and writes a new Java Class.
