Novell has launched the Office Open XML (OOXML) translator for OpenOffice.org. The tool will allow OpenOffice users to write and open files saved in XML formats from MS Office, the company said.
Brian Jones, a program manager in Microsoft’s Office group said, “I think at this point we can really move on to more productive and collaborative discussion and admit that we are no longer in any sort of ‘file format war.’ If we ever were really in a war, it’s now over, and both sides are winners.”
The system requirements for the tools are Linux, Windows versions of the OpenOffice.org software suite.
The latest versions of the MS Office platforms use the Office Open XML file format.
