Autodesk Linux Based Solutions Adopted by Broadcasters

Broadcasters and post-production facilities in the Asia Pacific region have recently embraced Autodesk Inc’s visual effects, editing/finishing and digital colour-grading products. Running on both the Linux operating system and Windows based solutions, Autodesk products are used for the creation of television channel branding, program packaging as well as film and long form content.

Autodesk’s presence in the Asian media and entertainment sector can be felt at China’s Beijing Television Station (BTV), Hebei Television Station, South Korea’s Arirang TV and Korean Broadcasting System, Taiwan’s Deepwaters Digital Support and Thailand’s Fame Post-Production Co. Ltd.

Since adopting solutions such as Autodesk Smoke High-Definition (HD) editing/finishing system, Flame 2K visual effect system, Inferno Linux, Maya 3D Animation, Autodesk Lustre digital colour grading system and Flint Linux, these companies have experienced improvements in efficiency and speed and a decrease in maintenance cost and downtime, said the compnay. Kuang Kui, Director of BTV Production Department, whose company currently uses the Autodesk Smoke HD editing/finishing system said, “After a year’s evaluation and trial we selected Autodesk Smoke HD running Linux. The Linux platform is very reliable and stable. Its open architecture also promotes interoperability and our total cost of ownership has fallen.”

Autodesk’s filmmaking digital tools were also behind the creative genius seen in recent Academy Award winning films Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and the animated movie Happy Feet.

Autodesks 2D and 3D software designs are also utilised in the manufacturing, building, construction and government sectors.
