Netfirms, the web hosting provider for Small to Medium-sized Businesses (SMB), has said that it is the first to allow developers to use both Linux and Microsoft Windows-based web hosting platforms simultaneously to build web sites and applications. Netfirms MultiPlatform unifies both web development environments providing integration and hosting costs, the company said in a statement.
Through proprietary technology developed by Netfirms, developers are able to use virtually any web programming framework from either platform at the same time, on the same web site. Netfirms MultiPlatform delivers the range of Windows and Linux based web site development tools available under a single account including ASP.NET 2.0 and 1.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Linux, Apache, MySQL, Ruby on Rails and PHP.
"As a web development company, keeping IT costs down is very important, "says Damian Tran, President, ColorShadow Communications.
Netfirms customers can leverage MultiPlatform technology through the Netfirms Business plan from USD 14.95 a month. Customers who select the Netfirms Business plan can build their website with both Microsoft and Linux functionality plus get 150 GB of disk space, 1,500 GB transfer, five free domain names, e-mail, e-commerce, statistics and 24/7 customer support, the company said.
"In the web hosting market customers are often forced to choose between Windows or Linux platforms to build websites," says Thomas Savundra, president of Netfirms. "We saw an opportunity to turn the industry on its head and no longer force developers to choose. We expect our customers to see tremendous value with Netfirms MultiPlatform."
