Convergys has plans of bringing some of its software development business in the Philippines. "We'll explore the potential of software development in the Philippines. This technology is used in call centers. In India, we've found that it's a great career progression for call centre agents [to eventually engage in software development]. With the right, incentives, we will do it in the Philippines," said David Dougherty, Convergys President and chief operating officer, during a visit in Manila.
The company operates seven call centres and two training centres in the Philippines. He said the company is still weighing plans on whether to expand operations in the country. "This will depend on the needs of our customers. But our business has grown in North America, India, and the Philippines," Dougherty said.
Convergys has so far outsourced its customer care business in the Philippines but there are no immediate plans to outsource the company's other businesses, including information management (billing and business support) and employee care (outsourced human resource management) in the Philippines, he said.
He said English proficiency, the level of education, and the Filipinos' familiarity with the American culture remained factors attracting US-based outsourced customer care operations in the country.
