Bangkok’s new international airport, Suvarnabhumi is scheduled to open on September 28. Initially, the new airport will be able to handle 76 flight movements an hour (up to half a million per year) or 45 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo. In order to keep flight schedules updated and ensure maintenance crews turn up quickly to the right bay and the right plane, Thai Airways has worked with Microsoft to develop a new automated system to manage this complex task for Thai Airways and customer flights, the Line and Light Production Control System (LCPS).
The new system utilises 64-bit Itanium, SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and the software development effort for LCPS has been done through the integration of Common Language Runtime (CLR) within the .NET framework of Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
