Sun Microsystems has set up its first ControlCentre in Chennai to manage and monitor customers’ information technology infrastructure and process. The Chennai ControlCenter, the first in Asia and the third in the world, has already started functioning and will employ as many as 300 people.
Sun’s APAC VP Jeya Kumar said that the company initilally considered China and Japan but chose Chennai considering requirements with regard to skills, language and access to resources.
Kumar said the ControlCenter will be focused on predictive management of applications, infrastructure, networks and security systems over conventional methods.
The 24x7 center will have the capability to receive data for customer site events, filter actionable events and respond to customers within 15 minutes, besides managing changes at the customer sites and monitoring and managing performance and inventory rate.
The services will include database administration, server management, web administration, operating system administration and networking device monitoring and management. Sun said that the customers have to sign separate agreements with it to avail themselves of the services and the cost will vary depending on services.
Sun Microsystems has an engineering site in Bangalore and has been in India since 1987.
