Google has opened a new office for South East Asia in Singapore, serving the local market and Southeast Asia. This new office enables Google to more effectively bring its leading advertising platform, services and search experience to users, advertisers and partners in the region.

Singapore has one of the highest Internet penetration rates in the world, with more than 71 per cent of households having online access. The country's central location and superior business and technology infrastructure make it an ideal location for Google to establish a hub of regional operations.

"The online environment in Southeast Asia is growing rapidly, with significant developments in broadband Internet access and e-commerce activities," said Richard Kimber, managing director, Southeast Asia, Google. "We are pleased to have our newest operations in Singapore, where we can draw from the highest quality talent to further help our users find the information they're looking for, and at the same time, help local and regional businesses succeed."

Lori Sobel has been appointed Head of Sales for Singapore, serving Southeast Asia. Sobel brings to her new role a decade of Internet advertising experience, strong leadership in building and managing large sales teams, as well as extensive and diverse experience in growing Google's business in key markets. Most recently, during her last four years at Google in the New York City office, she helped the company build its Business Solutions team, which contributed significant revenue to Google. Prior to Google, Sobel spent five years at DoubleClick Internet Advertising, leading multiple teams responsible for sales of integrated media and technology solutions to Fortune 1000 organisations.

"I look forward to helping organisations in Singapore and Southeast Asia understand and leverage the great returns that are available through Google's advertising platform with AdWords and AdSense," said Sobel. "By working with Google, private and public sector organisations can achieve greater operational efficiency, better communications, and global distribution."

The Google Singapore office will focus primarily on serving both Google AdWords and Google AdSense customers. The launch of the Google Singapore office is in line with Google's ongoing commitment to its international business and the search advertising industry in emerging markets around the world. Google's Southeast Asian advertisers currently represent a wide variety of organisations, ranging from SMEs and large enterprises to government agencies.
